Horse Play

A few weeks back, Tak and I went over to Stevie & Suzy Superior’s sim to see their new business (well, not really new, they been telling me about this for awhile). The business is breeding horses and they call it Horse Play located on the Danger2 sim.

Here it is, tucked in, surrounded by mountains, Stevie & Suzy’s Horse Play.

You may be asking yourself, how can horses breed in an artificial world? Well, the technology, the software for this type of process has been in a constant state of evolution for decades. So, when you see these horses, they really can breed. Here’s what Suzy told me though:

“The breeding process is really straightforward, that’s what makes it different than any other breedables; you inherit two of every trait, one from dad and one from mom. One shows, one hidden. Figure out what traits the horse has, and winnow out the ones you don’t like.”

This apparently not only fascinating as a concept, but big business too. Stevie told us that one horse sold in Second Life for L$350,000. Tak and I were speechless. Of course, they have some worn out old horses who can be horse traded for L$300 or there abouts.

This is a display of some of horses at various stages in the breeding cycle.
Notice the little tiny one in the center (right of red box).

I have to confess, I haven’t quite grasped this whole thing yet. I mean, these horses also have to be fed and watered. And if you don’t, they can die. And they get old. The breeding may be simple, but these horses have some amazing lifelike qualities. In fact, Suzy told me that there’s an updating coming in February, and the rumor is it will include new coats and new traits.

There is much more to tell about Horse Play. The day Tak & I visited, Stevie & Suzy took us on a ride thru the gorgeous sim they’ve developed just for horseback riding. Stay tuned.
