Blogging Forward – Part 1

A few nights ago I spent way too much time exploring the progress of my blog and photographs. I also checked Internet traffic and blog rankings. In both cases, the news was encouraging. Still, by no measure do I consider myself to be “successful”; however, I am doing good enough to give myself a “doing good enough” (“well enough” just doesn’t have the same flare, yanno?). I mean, I’m just a virtual person and all. Anyway, I had a lot to think about and I headed to a spot set aside to be alone.

Raining in my Heart - Second Life by Yordie Sands 2012

I went up to my studio where I have my little Buddha.
You have to look closely to can see it, but it rains up there.
It is a setting where I can connect with my feelings.

Figuring Out Strengths
I felt I’d need to better understand what my strengths are.

So, because it was easy, I wanted to see how I was doing as a photographer. One wow was,  some of my pics are category killers when it comes to Google Image search. A search of “Virtual Fantasy Life” turns up a batch of photos which are mostly mine.

Otoh, I don’t do so well as an “Second Life” + “Adventurer” or “Photographer.” Still, in the categories I checked Google returned my pics in a surpising number of categories.

Searching for blog links proved more difficult. However, this is what engines like Alexa are for and I saw a big improvement in this blog’s Alexa Ranking, especially compared to my old blog. As of today this blog’s rank is #1,158,349 (remember, lower is better) vs. previous low of 3,400,000 for the old Google blog. Still, my daily traffic still isn’t back to the levels of the old blog.

That’s Vanessa Blaylock in the center, she’s calling herself,
Humuhumunukunukua these days and as with many things VB,
I have no idea why she is doing this or what will happen next.

One big change for me is contributing to the iRez salon. I consider the day I met iRez magazine’s publisher, the wild & crazy & brilliant Vaneeesa Blaylock, to be a turning point in my second life. I’ve been exposed to a group of great writers & photographers. iRez opened doors for me to explore a whole new audience.

I enjoy meeting and getting to know other bloggers and I’ve met many this year. Also, I’ve learned some old friends are writers and bloggers, like Destinova Ducatillon and Gracee Beaumont.

My recent relocation from Sandpoint has caused me to take a fresh look at my second life. In the past I’ve made many mistakes along the way, but somehow I’ve worked my way into this blogger & photographer role. Tommorrow I’ll take this perspective a little further, remembering my roots and looking for a path forward.

Thank you for being a reader!

  3. Yes Yordie, it’s weird, but Blogger blogs just tank in places like Alexa or Technoratti… IDK why that is… THEY”RE GOOGLE AFTER ALL!! But somehow it’s like they aren’t even wired into the blog grid.

Anyway, congrats on your mooooving up!!! 🙂

Hi Pearl… I changed the header (it’s called Header) for Fall. I try to keep up with the seasons but got behind when I moved. Thank you for your kind words. Hugs, Yordie
