I’m so relieved. I finally recreated my Yordie Sands shape InWorldz and then I went on a shopping spree.
I found a hairstyle (Dala by EMO-tions) that I have in Second Life then a skin, pair of eyes and some jeans at REDGRAVE. I was very happy to find Vista Animations and I picked up a Basic AO but will go back and buy one similar to the one I have in SL. I still need a nice top, shoes, some jewelry and undies. I was a little disappointed in not finding Belleza Skins, Maitreya and some other stores, but I was very happy to find some of my favorite fashion vendors.
This was just a spur of the moment project but, in general, I’m glad I took the plunge. I have no idea how involved I’ll become. It’s refreshing to have limited choices, like living in a small town. It feels a little bit like travelling backwards in time but so far there have been no technical problems and there’s a lot to see and, for the most part, shopping is less expensive.
I don’t know which of the SL-like grids is most popular but InWorldz seems to have plenty of sims to explore and plenty of nice people to meet including a couple SL friends (/me waves to Mera and Ceorl).
Yeah, I had to come up with a totally new look because my normal skin and hairstyle aren’t available in InWorldz. Oh well, makeovers can be fun! I joined IW because I’ve got some musician friends, including Duncan Bagley and Izdovrcr Finesmith, who are trying out performing there, and I want to continue hearing them. We’ll see how much more involved I get, since I own a full sim in SL so already have a very busy virtual life!

Very cool, Mera. Do you use the Mesh viewer yet? I’m thinking of trying it. I’ll definitely checkout Glam Fashion and will look for the Knitting Circle too. I’m thinking about creating my own skin but have a hunch that it’s a bridge too far for me. (heh) hugs

Yordie it’s great to see you checking out InWorldz! Yes, it’s a bit like the small town version of SL but growing fast (now over 88,000 users). And to answer the question in your last paragraph, it’s the most popular alternative to SL available by far; in fact it’s about as popular as the total of the next 4 alternative grids in the Top 5 added together. This means it is more than twice as popular as #2 (OSGrid) and about 4 times as popular as #3 (Avination) according to the October stats: http://www.hypergridbusiness.com/2013/10/october-stats-report/
There is a lot going on in InWorldz; there is an events sign board you can grab a copy of at IDI (InWorldz Desert Island, the welcome region), and I have one rezzed near my Home spot so I can see all the upcoming events. There’s a rich music scene as well as a very active arts community too. If you have any questions about things, you might also want to join the “Where Can I Find It?” group or “The Pulse of InWorldz” group and just ask the crowd where they would go for something.
Have fun, and see you around. 😉

Hi Jim… thanks for the info. I had a feeling that InWorldz had to be up there in terms of popularity. I really was surprised at all the stores and the quality of the stuff in the stores. SHOPPING! (hehe). I hope to get more involved in the coming days but as with SL, I’m still light on available time. Hope to see you too! 🙂
