Lucky Seven

I got an IM from a friend in Second Life today wishing me a happy Rez day. Yeah, this closes my 7th year in SL, even though I haven’t really been inworld much in the past year.

I was thinking about writing some thoughtful comments about how my virtual life evolved, but I’ve done that many times in many ways, and I don’t think I have anything new to add.

Yordie Sands next year is very unclear as this Rez day begins to wind down. I’m feeling very positive about SL’s future under the new CEO, Ebbe Altberg. But then, I had good feelings about Rod Humble’s beginnings. Annie Brightstar invited me to an impromptu meeting with Ebbe but I couldn’t get myself into the right mindset to race over there; I regret it already.

If the new CEO is successful, I hope to see a new Linden Lab and Second Life, one that is driven by customer concerns versus developer’s desires. I have a few ideas of projects I’d like to try in SL but it will all depend on how things evolve in 2014.

Regardless, best of wishes to all the Linden employees! I hope everyone finds a way to achieve their goals while making Second Life a more customer focused product. And I’ll pop in from time to time to see how things are going.

Vaneesa Blaylock caught me on one of my quick visits to SL a few days ago. We shot some photos, so this will be my official Seventh Rez Day Photo. *giggles*

Hi Dahlia… I think my coming year will largely depend on what Linden Lab does to fix the problems with Second Life. I poked around inworld a lot this weekend and there are many issues. I hope you are having a good year. Hugs 🙂

  4. PS I always thought SL could be a great educational tool given the right direction.

Yeah, there’s been a lot of time put into thinking through the educational potential of SL, but it has had an on again off again relationship with Linden Lab.

Hi Cybele… I’ve only had three Rez day parties, maybe two. It’s not like it has ever been the social event of the year. hehehehe. Whenever your rez day is, here’s hoping it’s a good one. 🙂 Hugs

      • Lately I feel I can only focus on one thing at a time. Thinking of getting going again in SL with my own creative efforts just feels too daunting!! Time is a factor!! Photography and writing are almost full time hobbies!! I don’t even want to mention the everyday!! But I try for mindfulness in all! namaste!

That is part of my problem too, “getting going again…”. The thing is, each time I start to get going I encounter some problem that has been around for years, some simple thing that detracts from what I’m trying to do, and I get exasperated with the Lab. And that’s the end of that. When I see the Lab behave like owners of a product and stop behaving like a group of software developers who only want to work on the latest “cool” thing, then I’ll start to buy in again. There’s just too much that need fixing from bug to simple things like keeping people from buying seafront then use the sea to create massive structures that rob all the actual seafront owners of their views. OOPS, there I go. This is one reason I stay clear.
