I’m just a woman with an overactive imagination. I’m educated in the sense that “I never let schooling interfere with my education.” ~Mark Twain. Well, I do have some formal education, but I love the Twain quote.
For several years I spent far too much time in the virtual world called Second Life™ where my avatar starred as the heroine of a virtual fantasy life. Before the end of my first year in SL, I began documenting my experiences through blogging in Being Yordie Sands©. My blogging turned into a journey of discovery about myself and led to other writing projects.
In 2013, I stepped away from SL™ and over time I found my connection with that world beginning to dissolve. It was a difficult transition because I met some wonderful people and had many amazing experiences, but I also came to realize that I had become addicted. BTW, read about gaming addition my “Spiritual Opium” commentary.
Since then, I’ve tried returning to SL on several occasions with new avatars, but it just wasn’t the same as being Yordie Sands. Nonetheless, Yordie still pops into SL for brief visits from time to time, and I usually visit my favorite blues club, Junkyard Blues. I still love the JY’s bayou locale, great bluesy tunes, easy dancing, and seeing old friends.
My new life is far away from the relative wilderness of the northwest where I lived most of my second life. These days are focused much more on the real world, especially during winter months. And although you could say that my Second Life has come to an end, my virtual life continues, frequently on Xbox Live, also as Yordie Sands. I don’t play a lot of multiplayer games, but my favorite is still Fallout 76.
In 2019, I completed my debut novel, The Temporal Expeditions©. It is Book I of a planned trilogy, but the pandemic interfered with everything and gave me a unavoidable theme I must pursue in Book II. I’m starting to work on a new draft of Book II and hope to complete it this year. I’ve lost a lot of writing discipline but hope to publish by yearend 2022.
I thought I invented the name “Yordie” but much later I discovered that it’s a common name in Holland and elsewhere. So, for better or worse, I’m stuck with Yordie Sands, but I do enjoy being Yordie. She is different from the real me in one very obvious way, she never ages. She is also nicer than I am. And naturally, I love the fact that she always looks great, never has a bad hair day, and maintains her perfect shape without exercising or dieting. *smiles*

Note: my original blog began in February 2008 on Google Blogger, but in 2013 I moved all my posts, photos and comments to this WordPress blog. When I deleted the Google blog, someone I do not know took the name and used it for marketing. It is NOT owned by me.
